Upbringing Quotes

Dream big, they say. Shoot for the stars. Then they lock us away for 12 years and tell us where to sit, when to pee and what to think. Then we turn 18, and even though we've never had an original thought, we have to make the most important decision of our lives. And if you don't have the money and don't really have the grades, a lot of the decision gets made for you.

Some manners wouldn't go amiss.

What is it with you people? What kind of twisted upbringing did you have? You know why can't you just say: «Oh, that'll be a hundred gold coins?» Why does it always have to be, No, not unless you lay a magic egg, or count the hairs on a giant's ass?

— I tried with that kid, Alan. He says one thing, and then he goes and does another.
— He's 10. He's got the attention span of a hummingbird.
— What am I supposed to do when he ignores me?
— You punish him. You take away his computer, his TV, his toys.
