“Well, sometimes,” she answered cautiously.“When you aren’t acting like a varmint.”
“I think you like me because I am a varmint."

“Sir,” she said, “you are no gentleman!”
“An apt observation,” he answered airily.“And, you, Miss, are no lady.”

It was so good to have a man beside her, to lean close to him and feel the hard swell of his arm and know that he stood between her and unnamable terrors, even though he merely sat there and stared.

No one could go forward with a load of aching memories.

"Let me hold the baby, Scarlett. Well, he certainly looks like Frank. All except the whiskers, but give him time."
"I hope not. It's a girl."

I made a pretty suit of clothes and fell in love with it. And when Ashley came riding along, so handsome, so different, I put that suit on him and made him wear it whether it fitted him or not. And I wouldn't see what he really was. I kept on loving the pretty clothes--and not him at all.

Scarlett (about her dream):"Oh, Rhett, it's awful to be hungry."
Rhett:"It must be awful to dream of starvation after a seven-course dinner including that enormous crawfish."

“I don’t even intend to kiss you, either.”
“Then why is your mouth all pursed up in that ridiculous way?”

Why is it a girl has to be so silly to catch a husband?

Scarlett:"Besides, I’d just as soon kiss a pig.”
Rhett:“There’s no accounting for tastes.."

"I won’t need you to rescue me. I can take care of myself, thank you.”
“Don’t say that, Scarlett! Think of it, if you like, but never, never say it to a man."
